Distributed Solar Generates Intermittent Power

Distributed Generation holds great potential to reduce greenhouse gases, but when deployed in significant amounts, rooftop solar PV creates major management problems for distribution utilities. When hundreds or thousands of rooftop solar PV panels produce more power than needed locally, and that variable power is fed onto the end of a distribution line, the grid is potentially disrupted. The grid requires predictability and harmony, and solar power is both unpredictable and disruptive to the grid.

Xtreme Power has the Solution

An XP system positioned at a distribution substation manages distributed solar PV variability by automatically communicating with the utility's distribution automation sensor network and filtering variability. The XP system measures power levels at the micro-second level and automatically makes the necessary adjustments to ensure that the grid receives a predictable amount of power from the distributed solar PV generation.

Xtreme Power Transforms Solar PV

The XP system inside distribution substations acts as a buffer between the sensitive grid and the hundreds or thousands of rooftop-mounted solar PV panels, absorbing variable excess solar power production and feeding the grid smooth, steady power despite the variable nature of solar rays. The XP system stores power during peak production periods at mid-day when the sun is most productive and releases it onto the grid during peak periods hours later when it has the most value. Xtreme Power management and storage produces the VARs and voltage regulation capacity needed to accommodate significant amounts of solar PV onto the grid.
